THE CHANGEOVER

The Beijbom Kroner Big Band has been discontinued as of the end of 2004 after ten exciting years, because Lars Beijbom decided to resign from the band to pursue other artistic endeavours. Without Lars and his music there of course can't be a Beijbom Kroner Big Band and therefore no continuation.

However it was decided by a contingent of ex-BKBB-ites to build a new musical organization on the remnants of the Beijbom Kroner Big Band, carrying on the Erling Kroner legacy of tango, jazz and latin musics, under the sole leadership of Kroner, who will also step in front of the band to conduct and play solos. The composing/arranging chores will be handled by the new band's chief arrangers Kroner and bass trombonist Niels Gerhardt. The band's book will be based on Kroner's enormous book and new music by Gerhardt and others.

The musicians have been handpicked among recent and/or former ex-BKBB-ites, now with a distinctly Danish basis. You will recognize the names of recent BKBB-ites like K.E. Nørgaard, Carsten M. Larsen, Mårten Lundgren, Calle Lindberg, Niels Gerhardt, Jan zum Vohrde, Pernille Bévort, Jan Harbeck, Ed Epstein and Kasper Villaume. Lea Nielsen has subbed with the BKBB in recent years and joins the band by taking over from Erling, now fronting the band. Renowned Christina von Bülow played with a very early edition of the BKBB and is now 'back' in her seat, splitting the lead-sax with Jan zum Vohrde. The solo-flute chores have been taken over by zum Vohrde and the guitar has been cut out to make room for Lea and to provide a more over-all accoustic, flexible sound. Newcomers are Dennis Drud on drums, Graig Earle on bass and Marie Louise Schmidt on piano.
Niels Christensen will be available for live sound whenever needed, depending on venue and probable soloists.

And there you have the Erling Kroner New Music Orchestra, which had it's world premiere in early 2005.

World Premiere at Copenhagen JazzHouse March 9, 2005.

You are welcome to contact Erling Kroner directly about artistic/musical questions.
